Misty Copeland Speaks To Fans At The Reginald F. Lewis Museum

American Ballet’s Misty Copeland was in town this past Saturday at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum (830 E. Pratt St.) to speak to fans. The line to get in was wrapped all the way around the building as mothers, daughters and fans of dance were eager to see Copeland in person. She sat amongst 1,000 fans and shared her story of overcoming obstacles in the sometimes racist world of dance where young black women are often looked over because of the color of their skin. Misty told the crowd:

“It’s important for me to be a real person,” she said. “I am not somebody up on a pedestal. It is not about me as an individual. It is about what I represent.
